Every morning after getting up, I make myself a pot of coffee and then open up my laptop to read the latest news. Today we learned of the passing of Jimmy Buffett, and once again I was reminded of the power of music and how it has affected my life, and indeed the world.
David Crosby, John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, George Winston, Harry Belafonte, Robbie Robertson, and now Jimmy Buffett are among those who have recently left us, but their legacy remains a part of my spirit in countless ways.
Buffett was one of those musicians who, even in the darkest of moments, had the power to transcend, and take you to another world filled with color and light.
Over the years it's been a challenge to drink a margarita without thinking of the song, "Wasted Away Again in Margaritaville", and although I can't remember the last time I got wasted drinking margaritas, the associated upbeat vibes were ever present.
That's what music does. It takes you to places.
Can you imagine a world without music?
