Jim Jordan, the bellicose Congressman from Ohio and former assistant wrestling coach at Ohio Sate University, has been accused of knowing about and covering up sexual abuse by the team doctor during his tenure at the school.
Dozens of former wrestlers and staff members have come forward saying that Jordan knew full well what was going on, but did nothing to stop it. They even recall him responding to complaints about the doctor.
When the story became public during Jordan’s congressional campaign, he hired a public relations firm for $95,000 to help him dispute the allegations.
An independent report commissioned by the university found that the team physician, who died by suicide in 2005, abused 177 male students between 1979 and 1998.
During his time as assistant coach between 1987 and 1995, it would have been impossible for Jordan not to have known about these crimes.
Jordan, who chairs the powerful Judiciary Committee in Congress, and who was endorsed by Donald Trump last night, is among the candidates to become the next Speaker of the House.
