Back in the early 80’s, American Evangelicals were becoming frustrated by the growing LBGT movement and their inability to do anything about it, so many of them moved to Uganda and set up shop where they had a sympathetic ear.
Their hatred and animosity toward gay people spread like wildfire that culminated in a law passed earlier this year by 341 out of 389 members of parliament and signed by the president that among other things, allowed for the death penalty for anyone convicted of “aggravated homosexuality”.
Yesterday, a 20 year old man became the first person to be arrested under this section of the new law. Uganda has not carried out an execution since 2005, but now that could change.
Already a person could get a life sentence for merely announcing he or she was gay.
So is this what the so called “Christians” who went to Uganda had in mind when they spent more than $20 million between 2007 and 2020 fighting against LGBTQ rights in this gullible nation?
