Every now and then a story comes out that is so appalling it defies understanding.
Earlier this week Montana State Rep. Kerri Seekins-Crowe said in a floor speech that she would rather take the risk that her daughter die by suicide rather than allow her to transition, even though the kid has been suicidal for the last 3 years according to her mom. The legislator did not say whether or not her daughter identified as transgender.
Seekins-Crowe had just sponsored a bill banning medical related procedures and therapy for transgender minors.
The volume is loud in the Montana Statehouse these days because of the ousting of Zooey Zephyr, the transgender lawmaker who told Republicans they would have blood on their hands if they opposed gender-affirming health care for kids.
She’s probably right. Even more children with gender dysphoria will undoubtedly take their own lives now because of these kinds of draconian laws being enacted all over the country. The suicide rate is already much higher for trans kids than it is for the youth population at large.
Sadly, one of the victims may very well be the daughter of Kerri Seekins-Crowe.
