With the recent sentencing of Proud Boys leader, Enrique Tarrio, a total of around 700 years in jail have been handed down to those who participated in the 2021 insurrection.
And they’re not done yet.
A common defense has been that “Trump made me do it”, and that he ought to be the one going to jail instead of them.
These convictions and sentences should give others pause next time around when Trump summons his “patriots” to defend him in the streets once he’s found guilty. 22 years is a long time to sit around and think about what you might have done differently.
And they give me hope that the justice system will ultimately prevail, even when it comes to the big kahoona, and that 2 years from now we can all say that we’ve survived the biggest challenge to our Democracy in our short history.
But if I’m wrong, all the gods and goddesses that ever were had better be ready to go to work.
