One of the scariest things happening out there in the world these days is the proliferation of fake videos or "deepfakes" as they are called. Artificial Intelligence (AI) editors can find hours of footage of a certain celebrity, or anyone for that matter, and then using AI tools, can manipulate that video so it looks like the person is saying something that he or she did not ever say.
This technology is particularly frightening when used in politics - it's perhaps the most insidious form of lying. It's one thing to actually lie like George Santos did to the public in order to get elected, it's a whole 'nother thing for a string of videos to be out there of a candidate saying stuff that he never, ever uttered in public.
One such video shows Obama saying directly to the camera, "President is a total and complete dipshit". His lips, mannerisms, voice, and the entirety of the video content is completely made up.
What's next....a fake President Biden going on hacked television announcing that a nuclear bomb is headed our way, and that our time is over?
